RIP Ron Atkins
I am one legendary constituent down today.
Ron was only 10 years younger than @UKLabour itself.
His first political act was leafleting for Ramsey MacDonald in 1929. His last was to re-select me for Fishwick & Frenchwood. pic.twitter.com/jSttRXVEd7— Martyn Rawlinson (@martynrolly) December 31, 2020
I was honoured to replace Ron on Preston Council when he retired in 2010 age 92, his endorsement meant the world to me @prestonlabour has lost a giant today, sincere condolences to his wife Liz and family

My fave fact about former Preston North MP Ron Atkins – who’s sadly just died, age 104, is that he ‘tried to improve his health in order to enter the armed forces in World War II by eating a carrot-only diet for more than a month.’, cf. wikipedia. Rest In Power (and carrots) Ron!

They don’t make Labour MPs quite like Ron Atkins any more. A staunchly principled socialist, community representative, and a life-long activist. RIP https://t.co/glXaS5AfZZ
