Tributes To Heidi Weisel

Across social media users’ timelines are statements that show respect, admiration, and gratitude towards Weisel as people mourn the passing.

Debbie and I are shocked and saddened at the untimely passing of our close friend fashion designer Heidi Weisel. Here is the eulogy I wrote. May her memory be an eternal blessing.
I am writing this eulogy amidst the terrible pain and shock of Heidi’s passing. My wife and I can scarcely believe it.
We loved Heidi as a member of our family. She spent countless Shabbos dinners with us. Our children loved her as well and she was something of an aunt to them. She knew them from the time they were all small, growing up in Englewood, and then Heidi started joining us for our Shabbos dinners in New York City as well.
Heidi was such a good friend that when she saw me freezing and cold walking to Shul on Shabbos, she made me a beautiful cashmere scarf knowing my love for cashmere. She and I would later talk about getting into the business of creating Chassidishe Kapatas.
Heidi was the ultimate lady, refined and dignified, not to mention beautiful, smart and alert. She also had an incredible heart. I remember her calling me up, during the immigration controversy, where there were media reports of children being put into cages on the border, and Heidi called me almost crying saying “Shmuley, isn’t there something we can do to stop this”. She lived by Jewish values, and wanted to see the world more just, more perfect, more compassionate, and more merciful. She and I always talked about how her Jewish name was Chana, like our second daughter.
Heidi also loved my wife Debbie and they were extremely close. Heidi made a beautiful dress for Debbie and she so enjoyed seeing Debbie radiant in the outfits that she created for her. Heidi’s memory is a blessing to our family amidst the pain, shock and agony of her passing. I ask that God comfort her family along with all the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. May her memory be an eternal blessing.
