South African Judicial Conduct Tribunal has retired Judge Nkola Motata guilty of misconduct and has been fined over R1-million. Though cleared of gross misconduct, he retired high court judge must pay a fine of over a million rand
Nkola was convicted of DUI in 2007 and was fined R20,00 after he was involved in an accident in Hurlingham in Johannesburg.
The recent fine is equivalent to one year’s salary and will be payable over 24 months. He retired last year, but still enjoys all the benefits afforded to a judge, including a salary for life.
