Today I learnt that Professor Geoffrey Burnstock has sadly died. Remembered for successfully challenging Dale’s principle of one nerve – one transmitter, and the discovery of ATP as a transmitter molecule. I owe Geoff a great deal for his kindness and mentorship. What a legacy!

Sad news at the passing of Prof Geoffrey Burnstock, the father of purinergic signalling. A monumental figure who’s name I became very familiar with, very quickly during my PhD. My thoughts go out to his family.

It is with great sadness that we pass on the news to the UKPC community that Professor Geoffrey Burnstock has passed away. The founder of the purinergic signalling field as we know it today and a great scientist.
