England finally wins first-innings over South Africa after Nat Sciver and Alice Davidson-Richards hit a hundred. The event took place after day two of the one-off test match in Taunton. This was Vice-Captain Sciver’s best score as she broke her previous test record of 88 runs. Sciver (119, not out) and Davidson Richards (107) helped England win by scoring 328 runs for 6 on day 2 of the test match.

This surely was a win for England, who had found themselves at 121 for 5, and then Davidson and Sciver made their six-wicket partnership reaching 207 runs where Davidson was out to the last ball of the day. Sciver scored 119 runs, her previous score was against Australia at Taunton in 2019. Davidson Richards broke her record of scoring runs from 173 balls and became the second England woman player to score a century in her first Test innings, after Enid Bakewell in 1968.

Davidson, 28-year old, is, however, only the second male or female England Test debutant to score a hundred and take a wicket after WG Grace back in 1880. The women’s test was under South Africa’s control until they bowled their spinners before the second new ball in which England milked runs and the tourists were inefficient with the fresh Dukes later in the evening. South Africa surely took control before the England counter.  Visit Hare
