Caleb Wanaka Obituary – Death, Cause Of Death, Funeral: “Caleb Wanaka, 17, athlete and junior at Peninsula high school”

Friends and other affected persons mourn the death of an athlete and a junior student at Peninsula High School, Caleb Wanaka, 17, was killed and three other teenagers were injured in a tragic car accident on Peninsula Road on Monday.

Caleb died of his injuries at the scene of the incident while the other three teenagers were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Wanaka was a rising star in the sport; playing both basketball and baseball for Peninsula High School. He was named infielder of the All-League Class 4A South Puget Sound League first team infielder in the 2021 spring season and was also named in the 2021 Zone 2021 Second Team of the News Tribune.

I thought high school kids would know that they shouldn’t ride in the bed of a truck?
Caleb Wanaka, a 17-year-old athlete and junior at Peninsula High School, died from his injuries, according to Sgt. Darren Moss of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
“Five kids were in the truck, only the driver was seatbelted in,” Moss said. “The other four kids were riding in the bed of the truck.”
