A man is dead following a reported altercation that occurred at a residence on West Locust Street this morning.Mt. Sterling Police officers were dispatched to 133 W. Locust St. around 9 a.m. to a report of a fight in progress, MSPD Det. Aaron Noel told the Advocate.
When authorities arrived, James E. Anderson, 58, was found unresponsive. He was transported to Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, Noel said.
There did not appear to be any weapons involved, Noel said, and an autopsy will be performed on Anderson tomorrow morning in Frankfort.
David C. Hedges, 31, of Mt. Sterling, was arrested and charged with manslaughter, first degree. He is lodged in the Montgomery County Regional Jail.
Hedges is reportedly Anderson’s nephew, authorities said.
Witnesses claim Hedges started an altercation with Anderson outside on the side of the home, Noel said.Hedges was reportedly helping work on the home, which is owned by another family member, when Anderson arrived, Noel told the Advocate. The altercation allegedly occurred over items in the home, Noel said witnesses claim.
