Tributes To Leon Haley
Across social media users’ timelines are statements that show respect, admiration, and gratitude towards Haley as people mourn the passing.
“I had been hesitant due to my medical history, but after discussing with my doctor, I was almost ready to get the vaccine. Dr. Haley’s passing and his last push for vaccinations have been the inspiration for Carlos and me to do this in honor of him. I hope others follow in honoring our great leader.” – Melissa Caperton, reimbursement and quality improvement manager, pictured here with her husband Carlos Caperton, a maintenance technician, during a vaccination event held today in Dr. Leon L. Haley Jr.’s honor.
Dr. Haley proudly spent last Friday, July 23, on-campus going unit by unit personally offering and administering the vaccine to our staff. To carry on his legacy, a vaccine rally was held at our downtown and UF Health North campuses, welcoming faculty and staff to get vaccinated if they hadn’t already.
This is by far one of the hardest goodbyes I’ve had to say. It has been heartbreaking for my family to lose such a phenomenal soul. Leon Haley, Jr. will absolutely be missed…every year, every month, every day, every hour, every minute, every second. He truly lived an inspiring life…his dedication and compassion for the community and his family were unmatched. Beyond his accomplishments, he was just a really good person. Praying mightily for the Haleys.
Leon, I will keep our nephew close and also do my best to hold down the godparent front. I will continue to love Lisa and the entire family. Rest well.
