Friday, August 20, 2021, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher is releasing the identities of the two individuals who died in a two-vehicle accident on August 20, 2021, at the intersection of Edmund Highway and Old Dunbar Road in West Columbia. According to Coroner Fisher, Alexis Nicole Evans, 18, of West Columbia, and Maliyah Claire Scott, 18, of Lexington were traveling W. Dunbar Road, attempting to cross Edmund Highway to Old Dunbar Road when another vehicle failed to yield right of way. Ms. Evans, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced deceased on scene due to her injuries while Ms. Scott, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to an area hospital where she later died from the injuries she sustained in the accident. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Miss Evans and Miss Scott.
