Was sad to hear of the passing of Junior Coffey, a @UW_Football great, twice a top-10 NFL running back and an excellent horse trainer at Longacres and @EmeraldDowns. Talked to him at length a couple of times. He was an interesting, nice and thoughtful man.

RIP Junior Coffey. Former NFL runningback-turned-horse trainer, Junior was an incredibly sweet man who always had time to chat with and let me look at his Super Bowl ring.
My mom loved him. He was just the nicest guy. I was a barn kid at Bay Meadows/Golden Gate Fields. I would just wander around while my parents worked. Junior taught me all sorts of things about training horses when he could’ve easily told me to kick rocks. I hope, somewhere up there, he’s feeling good and his knees aren’t sore.
