The Adviser to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Governor of Makkah Al-Mukarramah Region, Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, received at the emirate's headquarters in Jeddah yesterday (Monday) the President-General of the General Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Protection, Dr. Khalil bin Musleh Al-Thaqafi, accompanied by a number of officials of the Authority.

During the meeting, the Emir of Makkah was briefed on the work of the authority during the pilgrimage season in Makkah Al-Mukarramah and the holy sites, which included the distribution and operation of 10 stations for environmental monitoring and the measurement and follow-up of mobile and fixed pollutants, and the deployment of 14 environmental inspection teams equipped with equipment, devices and qualified national cadres, in addition to the implementation of 370 field inspection tours. For all service facilities with potential environmental impact, including medical facilities, subsistence services, slaughterhouses and facilities related to the environment and the roads leading to it, in coordination and cooperation with the concerned authorities.

The Emir of Makkah Al-Mukarramah region also listened to an explanation of how the authority monitors data and information through its centers spread in Makkah Al-Mukarramah and the holy sites, analyzes it, predicts phenomena before they occur and sends them to the relevant authorities, in addition to preparing time bulletins, measuring weather elements and preparing warning bulletins for the safety of vertical aviation in The Observatories of Mina and Arafah, with follow-up of alerts and warnings issued by the General Administration of Analysis and Forecasts through the Hajj Operations Room in Mina, and delivering them to the beneficiaries.

During the reception, Dr. Al-Thaqafi explained that the Authority issued 720 meteorological and 60 environmental bulletins during the Hajj season, in addition to broadcasting daily weather bulletins, text messages, and awareness messages in 4 languages (Arabic, English, French, and Urdu), and distributing informative and educational publications, as well as various souvenirs. The authority benefited from its partnerships with many government agencies and the media, and in cooperation with them it published awareness and climate messages on a daily basis and throughout the days of Hajj, with two weather bulletins and an air quality bulletin, in addition to publishing messages on the screens of the entrances roads to Makkah Al-Mukarramah and a number of vital sites in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, and installing A number of informative boards in the holy sites, thanks to its partnership with the Municipality of the Holy Capital.
