Venezuelan Interior Minister Remigio Ceballos announced the death of "El Conejo" "The Rabbit", a criminal gang leader wanted for months, and the authorities had been offering a $1 million reward for finding him.
Ceballos said in a statement broadcast on public television that "Carlos Enrique Gomez Rodriguez, known by the pseudonym "El Conejo" … wanted for terrorism, extortion, kidnapping, murder and other crimes, has been killed."
Gómez Rodriguez led a dangerous gang known by the pseudonym of its leader, and was active in the state of Aragua in the center-north of the country.
The minister did not give specific details about the way in which El Conejo was “killed,” but indicated that he died as a result of a process that lasted “several months” throughout the country, especially in the state of Aragua.
In addition, the security forces arrested 36 criminals and seized 16 firearms, war materials, portable radios, motorcycles and phones.
El Conejo has been wanted for more than a year and authorities offered a $1 million reward in February after he got into a shootout with police.
In February 2022, another organized gang leader, Carlos Luis Rivet, nicknamed "El Cookie", an ally of "El Conejo", was also killed. The authorities had offered a $500,000 reward for finding him.
