McDonald's decided to temporarily close its offices in the United States this week, as it prepares to inform employees of layoffs to restructure the company, according to the Wall Street Journal.
McDonald's, in an internal email to American employees and some international employees, asked to work from home Monday through Wednesday so it could make hiring decisions. It is not clear how many employees will be laid off.
"Within a week, we will inform key decisions regarding roles and staffing levels across the organization," the Chicago-based company said in the letter.
The report added that McDonald's also asked employees to cancel all in-person meetings with vendors and other third parties at its headquarters.
The fast-food chain said in January it would review staffing levels at businesses as part of an updated business strategy, which could lead to layoffs in some areas and expansion in others.
