A new report published by the World Health Organization (Monday) revealed that infertility affects about one in six people worldwide.
The report found that about 17.8% of the adult population in high-income countries suffers from infertility, while 16.5% of the adult population is affected in low- and middle-income countries.
The World Health Organization defined infertility as a disease that affects the male or female reproductive system, and is defined by the failure to achieve pregnancy after 12 months of marriage.
"This can cause significant distress and financial hardship, affecting people's mental and social health," the WHO said.
