A team of researchers in the United States has found that some types of meditation can be used to treat depression and anxiety in adolescents.

In the framework of the study, which was conducted by a research team from the Biomedical Center at Northeastern University in the United States, the researchers concluded, using brain radiographs, that it is possible, through mindfulness meditation, to calm down some parts of the brain associated with depression, stress, and some other psychological disorders.

According to the study, which was published in the scientific journal "Molecular Psychiatry", the researchers found that this area of the brain known as the "default mode network" calms down when practicing meditation, while another part is known as the "executive central network", which is responsible for setting goals. Solve problems, become more active. "The study included 9 volunteers between the ages of 17 and 19, and revealed that it is possible to train adolescents to practice mindfulness, which helps achieve good results," says researcher Susan Whitfield Gabrielli, a specialist in psychology at Northeastern University.

And she stated, in statements reported by the “Medical Express” website, which specializes in medical research, that the success rates of other treatment methods for depression and anxiety, including medical drugs or talk therapy, ranged between 30% to 50%, adding: “We need interventions.” on a case-by-case basis to target the brain networks that are known to be associated with disease symptoms.
