Scientists from universities in Canada and the United States have discovered that many products including headphones, plastic toys and personal care items contain a harmful substance that increases the risk of cancer.

During a study published in the Journal of Environmental Sciences, scientists tested a group of substances, and found that 85% of them contained short-chain chlorinated paraffins, substances known to cause cancer. The items studied included headphones, plastic toys, personal care items, paint and clothing.

"We were surprised to find CPs in these types of products," said study co-author and professor of chemistry at the University of Toronto. We need to prevent these harmful substances, especially those used by children.”
