Twitter intends to allow users to charge for access to their content, “from long texts to hours-long videos,” according to a tweet from company owner Elon Musk (Thursday).
Musk made it clear that during the first year, Twitter will not collect any of the money that users earn from subscriptions. Adding that users will keep at least 70% of the subscription revenue on the mobile phone after calculating the application store fees.
These modifications may contribute to attracting more content creators to the platform, or keeping them from leaving the platform.
Although Twitter will not keep a portion of the revenue that users receive during the first 12 months, it may be a step to generate more money in the future. For its part, “Google” said that it may collect only 15% of the subscriptions, compared to 30% to 15% after the first year for “Apple”.
