Gary Peacock Death – Obituary | Dead – Passed Away
Gary Peacock Death – Dead: A great loss was made known to InsideEko. As friends and families of the deceased are mourning the passing of their loved and cherished Gary Peacock.
With the death of Gary Peacock it is, in fact, the end of the most overwhelming of the trios, that of Keith Jarrett, who has been with me for thirty-five years. I find it hard to believe that we will no longer see them together, to accept that the legend must end, and this evening I am very sad.

My friends and I in college would shout “Gary Peacock has NO IDEA what he is doing” while listening to Keith Jarrett Trio records. We yelled that as a joke because, JFC, Gary Peacock knew what he was doing. What a player, what a loss.

So sad to hear that one of the great jazz bassists has passed away today. Gary Peacock played with numerous bands, but my wife and I will always remember his brilliant contributions to the Keith Jarrett Trio. RIP

We just lost the towering bassist Gary Peacock, who played with Albert Ayler (Spiritual Unity), Tony Williams, Paul Bley, Bill Evans, Mal Waldron, Marilyn Crispell, Keith Jarrett & others. His (unpublished) memoir is apparently an invaluable document of the free jazz era.

Today Gary Peacock, a titanic musician, died. He was a step behind Charlie Haden in terms of fame, but they both represented the same thing: the versatility, breadth, and infinite creativity of double bass players forged in the 60s. There is a short thread with some examples:
