The National Cybersecurity Indicative Center, affiliated to the National Cybersecurity Authority, issued a very loud security warning regarding an update in the “WhatsApp” application.
The center stated that “WhatsApp” issued an update to address a vulnerability in the following versions, WhatsApp for Android, version 2.21.22.7, and WhatsApp Business for Android, version 2.21.22.7.
The center revealed that the threats consist in enabling the attacker to exploit the vulnerability by sending a malicious image that causes the program to close suddenly.
With regard to preventive measures, the center recommended updating the affected versions, as “WhatsApp” issued an explanation for this update through the following link: https://www.whatsapp.com/security/advisories/2021/, stressing the need to update through the App Store. Play store, search for WhatsApp, then click on “Update”.
