A recent report by WABetaInfo revealed that WhatsApp developers are working on a new feature that may enable users to lock individual chats using fingerprints or passcodes. Users will be able to view these locked chats in a separate section, which would make it impossible for anyone without the passcode to view these chats. And if someone tries to access the phone and fails the authentication process several times, they will have to delete the chat if they want to open it, according to the Indian Express.
Apart from enhancing user privacy, the new feature can also help hide media shared with private chats, by not automatically saving them to the device gallery.
The new feature was spotted in the latest WhatsApp Beta for Android (v2.23.8.2), and it seems that the new functionality will be available in a future version of the app.
