A court in India has ruled that a man convicted of killing a woman in 2014 should be imprisoned, after hearing the testimony of a parrot.

According to the details of the "India Today" website, the verdict was issued in the case of the murder of the wife of the editor-in-chief of a major newspaper in the city of Agra, Nilam Sharma, in her home on February 20, 2014, and there was no firm evidence except for the pet parrot. According to the report, the bird kept shouting the name of the victim's husband's nephew.

The husband suspected Vijay after hearing the cries of the parrot calling the name of the 28-year-old son, as Ashu confessed to killing Neelam with the help of his friend Ronnie Massey.

After 9 years of the crime, the judge sentenced both the accused, Ashu and Roni, to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of 72,000 rupees based on Ashu's confession and subsequent evidence.

According to "India Today" information, Vijay Sharma left his home on February 20, 2014 to attend a wedding and Neelam stayed at home, and when he returned late at night, he was surprised by the bodies of his wife and her pet dog, who were killed with a sharp object.

The parrot remained silent after witnessing the crime, and stopped eating and drinking.

But when the bird heard the names of the suspects, it was afraid and kept shouting the name "Asho… Ashu", and even in front of the police, the bird reacted in the same way when hearing the name Ashu.

The police report stated that Ashu knew where the jewelry and money were in the house, and was planning to steal, and the police added that he stabbed the family dog nine times with a knife and killed Neelam with 14 stab wounds, which indicates that his only intention was to kill and loot.

The police report did not mention the parrot throughout the investigations in the case because the law of evidence does not allow this.
