Agricultural tourism is one of the most important aspects of attracting vacationers to the Asir region, and it is usually associated with visiting agricultural terraces, which is one of the most beautiful aspects of rural life, especially in summer times, as it embraces “wheat”, “barley”, “millet”, “white corn” and other crops. The crops that the mountain highlands are famous for, and the large farms in which modern agricultural production methods are available stand out as one of the most important tributaries of food security and tourist attractions. products.
Agricultural tourism has received the attention of the Emir of the Asir region, Prince Turki bin Talal, who directed to make it one of the most important programs of the Asir summer 2020, through the “Asir bounties” project, which is located in the middle of Al-Fan Street in Abha, as it attracted vacationers, tourists and those interested in the fields of agriculture, beekeeping and livestock from different regions of the Kingdom.
The tasks of the “Khairat Asir” project include marketing local agricultural products that express the identity of the agricultural region and its distinction in this aspect for thousands of years, in addition to introducing visitors to the region to the most prominent features of agricultural production, supporting farmers in all marketing fields and production development techniques, and providing agricultural consultations, Guidance tips for farmers and visitors, learning about agricultural initiatives and loans, and the continuous support that the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques gives to farmers in the Kingdom, and the initiatives offered by the Agricultural Development Fund that seek to raise the efficiency of local production, care for and preserve crops, and present the modern methods used to rationalize water consumption in irrigation And ways to preserve and protect agricultural crops.
Bisha Governorate was also famous for the "Al-Safri" Dates Festival, which attracts visitors from the regions of the Kingdom and the Arab Gulf countries, and displays annually more than 30 thousand tons, representing "Al-Safri" dates, about 90% of the production.
Despite the recent experience, the cultivation of roses and aromatic plants in the Asir region has become an important tourist attraction, in light of the presence of farms in the region that are classified among the largest in the Kingdom, such as the rose farm located north of the city of Abha on an area of 250 thousand square meters, where more than 40 plants are grown. One million roses a year, and this farm receives visitors and tourists who love roses and landscapes. It also produces many perfumes such as rose water, perfume, rose oil, and some rose-related products such as creams. The farm also includes a distillery for rose extraction that produces about 120,000 packages annually.
