Have you ever read the nutrition IGR Plus Review information on these products. I didn’t for a long time. Now, I read them and likely as not, I put the product back on the shelf and make it myself. This is good in several ways, and your wallet is one of them. It’s also a lot healthier. However, the lack of time continues to be an issue…or does it. How can you get a healthy dinner on the table quickly. Or have after school snacks ready when the kids get home. It just takes a little rearranging to do both.
Here is how we solved the problem for our household. First, I do a lot of extra cooking on the weekend. I can make and freeze several dinner items at the same time, thus having a healthy frozen dinner available when I’m rushed. If we plan to do any grilling, I’ll buy extra stuff and do the same thing. It’s just as easy to cook six chicken breasts as it is one.
The second solution is found on the produce aisle. There are quite a few products there now that weren’t available five and ten years ago, and there is bound to be a few of them you can use. They range from individual salads and veggie/fruit snack trays to salad kits for the whole family. If you’ve got a large family, you may want to buy prepackaged baby carrots or the carrot/celery stick tubs.
In the deli department, there are individual cheese snacks. Kids love string cheese, and it’s a good way to get calcium without having to coerce them into eating something they may not like. In fact, take the kids with you and let them help you select which snacks they like. For those who love something a little saltier, we use lightly salted nuts. These provide vegetable protein and other nutrients, plus fiber. If you can handle them without salt, so much the better. We get enough sodium as it is.
