We lost a great person today in Bobby Pope, long time Mercer University Athletic Director. He was the only AD to give me an opportunity to be head coach and I am forever grateful. He was great person and will be missed dearly. Prayers for the Pope family.#RIP

The Mercer family and Macon, GA lost a good one today. This man gave me my first full-time job in college athletics. There was never a day that I didn’t enjoy working for Bobby Pope. Hope there’s a Steak n’ Shake in heaven that’ll accept his “free milkshake” coupons.

I’m so glad Mr Bobby Pope got in the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame when he did! So deserving! He was able to get his flowers when he could smell them. This was my last interview with him from February 2020. He was very emotional and proud was able understatement.
