David Alfonso Obituary – Death: Former Tampa Tribune sportswriter and algebra teacher David Alfred Alfonso, has died. David Alfonso died on August 6 after battling chronic lymphocytic leukemia for 25 years. He was 73 years old.
He filled pages of a yellow legal pad with his own obit, and when his former newsroom buddies stopped by, he asked them for a final edit. David Alfonso, who covered sports for the Tampa Tribune, was 73 and, as you’ll see, never lost his way with words.
