Chinese scientists have warned against sleeping during the day, stressing that those who succumb to daytime naps are at risk of stroke. According to the British Daily Mail, researchers at the University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China, confirmed that those who sleep more than 9 hours at night are also at risk. The researchers conducted a 6-year experiment, in which 31.7 thousand people who had never had a stroke or problems participated. Healthy, the results concluded that 8% of those who sleep 90 minutes or more during the day, and 24% of those who sleep 9 hours or more during the day and night, had a stroke more than those who slept 7-8 hours a whole day by 23%, while the percentage rose to 85 % of those who sleep day and night. Russian scientist Mikhail Poluktov, from the Sechenov Medical Academy, commented, saying: The results refute the common misconception that long sleep on holidays compensates for fatigue, exhaustion, and lack of sleep during the week, adding: “This is the reason for the increase in diabetes and cardiovascular disease.”
