Quiet Please, There is a Lady Leaving the Stage

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I advise you that Helen Reddy has transitioned from this life. She left the world’s stage on September 29, 2020 but her music, legacy, and impact will live on.
I won’t go into Helen’s biography, her professional accomplishments, or her accolades. But I will talk about her love for her family – Traci, Jordan, and Lily lit up her face when they walked into the room.
We were with Helen at a performance of Shirley Valentine the night before Lily was born. As Helen said later, “That was the fastest Shirley Valentine on record. But I had to get to Traci to be there when Lily was born.” Helen loved being a grandmother; her stories of Lily and the fig newtons were a favorite as she retold often how Traci said Lily could have only one but Nana relented and let her have more.
Helen was as proud of Traci and Jordan as any mother could ever be of their children. As long as I have known her, Helen talked of Traci’s love for animals, plants, and her dedication to the Earth and all its creatures. When Traci opened her shop on Santa Monica a few years ago, Helen beamed with joy.
Jordan. What can I say? Helen and Jordan have the same smile, sense of humor, and love of a good off-color joke. Seeing them together warmed my heart and soul.
I am so very thankful to Traci and Jordan for sharing their mother with me. And to Helen for adding more to my life than I can ever explain or describe. She always left me feeling loved (even when I got on her last nerve!) and that I mattered. That, in itself, is a rare and precious gift that I will treasure for the rest of my life.

Keep listening to the best, Jim

Statement from Traci and Jordan

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Helen Reddy, on the afternoon of September 29th 2020 in Los Angeles. She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and a truly formidable woman. Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever.

Helen Reddy, the activist and beautiful voice behind the 1972 feminist anthem “I Am Woman,” has died at age 78.
She had a string of pop and rock hits in the 1970s, but it’s THAT song that proves music can change the world for the better.

Oh dear, Helen Reddy has died. What is it with this month that so many iconic trailblazing women have passed away? I loved Helen’s voice and many of her songs and…..of course….the anthem for which she was famous. Condolences to her family.

What a very sad day indeed. RIP the legendary Helen Reddy. Superb musician, vocalist, actress and feminist icon. Here she is on the set of PETE’S DRAGON (1977). Think I will give that a watch tonight and cry. Thank you, Ms. Reddy.

We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
