Today, the Heritage Authority approved the registration and documentation of 190 new archaeological sites in the National Register of Antiquities. The number of sites registered in the National Register of Antiquities has reached 8,788 archaeological sites in various regions, all of which represent a national heritage that reflects the historical richness of the Kingdom.

The Asir region had the largest share of these sites with 35 sites, followed by the Al-Jawf region with 32 sites, then the Tabuk region with 31 sites, followed by the Hail region with 23 sites, the Al-Qassim region with 22 sites, then the Eastern region with 20 sites, and the Jizan region with 11 sites, in addition to the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region with 10 sites and 5 sites. Sites in Al-Baha region and finally one site in Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah region.

The registration of these sites is based on the Antiquities and Architectural Heritage System issued by the Royal Decree on 1/9/1436, and in accordance with the Authority’s Board of Directors’ decision that includes authorizing the Authority’s CEO to approve the registration of archaeological and heritage sites in the National Antiquities Register.

This comes within the framework of the Heritage Authority’s efforts to discover archaeological and historical sites in the Kingdom, and to register them officially in the National Register of Antiquities, and then project them onto digital maps that enable ease of management, protection and preservation, and to build a spatial database of registered archaeological sites, and to preserve and document the works that are being conducted on them. And archiving documents and pictures of heritage sites in the Kingdom.

The Heritage Authority called on citizens and those interested to report the discovered archaeological sites so that the Authority could access them and then register them, through the Balagh platform: https://contactcenter.moc.gov.sa
