Hunter Lopez Marines Obituary – Death: Marine Cpl. Hunter Lopez, 22, the son of the Riverside County Deputy Sheriff, has died. Lopez, of Coachella Valley, was one of 13 servicemen killed in an attack on the Kabul airport on Thursday, August 26.

More than 180 people, including 13 US service members, were reportedly killed in a suicide bomb attack at Hamid Karzai International Airport on Thursday, which the US blames on a regional Islamic State group. It was the deadliest day for US military personnel in Afghanistan since 2011.

Lopez graduated in 2017 from La Quinta High School in the Desert Sands Unified School District. He is at least the second member of the Riverside County military to be killed in the attack.
