So sad to hear that James Dunn passed today. He was a brilliant New Testament scholar. His book Jesus Remembered was such a game changer for me. Until, the resurrection, good Doctor.

Very sad to hear the news that the legendary New Testament scholar James Dunn has passed away. I learned much from his work. I also had the privilege of writing a book with him in which we responded to one another’s views. I will have more next week. R.I.P. Professor Dunn.

RIP to NT scholar James Dunn: best known for his work on the “New Perspective on Paul,” which challenged overly-simplistic Protestant readings of Pauline scholarship, among other things (though he would later come to a mediating position).

James Dunn may you rest in peace and rise in glory. Prayers for Meta and family in their grief. We have lost a great New Testament scholar and a sincere man of God who gave much to the church. We have lost a man who gave much to encourage and support his students and colleagues.

Based in Aust, never met James Dunn. But working with his scholarship through the years, feel a strong affinity. Just yesterday, as I engaged w Dunn’s work in my own, was thinking ‘I would love to share a whiskey with you’. Maybe at the great feast. Heartfelt thanks Jimmy Dunn.

James Dunn (1939-2020): The last great historian and theologian of early Christianity. His work is very important, for he not only explored the theme of the early church, but investigated the theology of the Spirit with rigor and creativity.
