Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Detectives Arrest, Charge Homicide Suspect
16 year-old charged in JB White killing
Santa Fe, NM, August 1, 2020 – Santa Fe County Sheriff’s detectives have charged a 16-year-old Santa Fe resident with an open count of first-degree murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a handgun, and negligent use of a deadly weapon in the shooting death of FeDonta Mikel White, Jr., aka JB White.
According to sheriff’s investigators, sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported shooting at 33 Camino Chupadero, Santa Fe, NM at approximately 3:30 am, August 1, 2020.
Based on witness accounts a party was being held at the residence in Chupadero. At about 3:30 am gunshots were heard and one of the partygoers had been shot. The shooting victim was identified as FeDonta Mikel White, Jr., aka JB White, 18 years old, of Santa Fe, NM.
Friends of White began transporting him in a private vehicle to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center. Enroute to the hospital White’s friends encountered EMS first responders who transported the victim to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation indicates that JB White and another individual, identified as Estevan Mateo Montoya, 16 years old, became involved in a physical altercation, which eventually resulted in Montoya shooting White. Montoya fled the crime scene and was apprehended later with the assistance of the Santa Fe Police Department. He has been charged and is being held at the Santa Fe County Juvenile Detention Center.

This case remains an open and ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.
“This is something that was senseless. It’s so heart wrenching for that family. I couldn’t even imagine what they’re going through. I can’t even imagine it,” Cordova said.
Fedonta “J.B.” White, a star Santa Fe High School basketball player who was committed to play for the UNM Lobos this season, was shot and killed early Saturday morning.
