The phrase, “Life isn’t fair” couldn’t be more true than it is today. The world lost an incredibly kind, loving, sincere, dedicated public servant and true friend this morning. Judge John Pickrel served on the Dayton Municipal Court bench for 31 years. He served as the Presiding Judge for many of those years and started the Dayton Mental Health docket that became his legacy from his years as judge. He was a champion for men and women with severe and persistent mental health illness.
Along with his children he leaves behind my dear friend and fellow commissioner Judy Dodge. His love for her was so sweet and caring. His loyalty to friends and family and his impact on those he helped through his public service will never be forgotten. May his memory be a blessing.

“It is not the length of life, but the depth of life.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
