A good man passed away today. Ken Foose provided me with two of the greatest joys in my life. He sold me my very first snake, Apophis — the one that sparked my love for these animals and opened up a whole new world to me. He also sold me my most treasured False Water Cobra, Legion. Thank you for sharing your passion with us through your animals. We will never forget the influence you had on our lives through them. Rest in peace, Ken
The last few years have been tough. I’ve lost a lot of people who were good friends. Last night took another old friend, Ken Foose. Ken always made things fun. But it was when I was younger that Ken had the most influence… he used to fly me out to give talks to the Las Vegas Herpetological Society. I cherish those memories – they were really good times. We traveled together over the years and I really enjoyed it. Ken opened up on a couple of trips to the Amazon. I had no idea just how difficult his childhood had been. But he survived it and did well for himself. He wasn’t just a leader in herpetoculture, he was a great friend. Rest in peace my friend.
The reptile community lost one of it’s own yesterday. Ken Foose played a MAJOR roll in shaping the man that I am today. The young teenage version of myself always asked to be driven 45min across town to go to Ken’s store to buy crickets and look at all the cool stuff that he had. He store (3 versions ago) was usually a bit dirty, dark and smelled like cigarette smoke, it was amazing! I purchased my first snake from ken, my first veiled chameleon, I also received lots of advice from Ken over the years as I entered into the business. He always took the time to answer and help; heck, he gave me his blessing when I opened a competing store. Going WAYYYYYYY back, I remember Ken hanging out and talking reptiles in AOL chat rooms. Ken, was also the champion of all who kept Exotics in Nevada keeping an eye out for bogus law making that frequently tried to get passed on the down low.
Ken loved telling stories, he would always have good ones always at the ready and the snake, lizard or experience got more wild each time it was told. I was going to see him tomorrow and im sad that I missed the chance to hear one last fishing tail by 1 day. Ken was a interesting crusty ol’ reptile guy – he was my friend and he will be missed by the community.
God speed Ken Foose and Rest In Piece sir.
We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
