It just does not seem possible that a heroine to so many of us who loved her and looked up to her could be gone. The warm, funny, courageous poet Kim Bridgford died young of cancer today. This was her self-elegy.

Almost every chance I’ve had to gather with other formal poets was at a gathering conjured up by #KimBridgford, who has left the world far too soon. Impossible to measure what her loss means to that community. Rest in peace, Kim. Also, cancer sucks.

I’m very sad to learn of the passing of the poet Kim Bridgford, who was a marvelously kind and supportive conference director. She made so many feel welcome at West Chester and Poetry by the Sea.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Kim Bridgford, a visionary who made incredible things happen for poets, poetry and the world. It was a wonderful evening when Kim read for the Hyla Brook Reading Series at the Frost Farm back in 2014. Our sympathies to Kim’s family, friends and Poetry by the Sea community.
We here at the West Chester University Poetry Center join our university and other external communities in morning a great loss to both our academic and student worlds but to the world of poems as well. Kim Bridgford made contributions to the lives of countless students in her classes, and was a guiding force for this center during a time of great transition. We welcome you to share here your fun memories with Kim, and to celebrate her work, her poetry, her life, her smile.
I’m thinking about Kim Bridgford today–what a shock to have her gone from us so suddenly. Back in 2005, one of my very very first literary magazine publications was in Dogwood; I’ll always remember her kindness in the correspondence. Rest well, dear poet, and know that we’ll keep the flame burning for your memory.
We are still working on getting more details about the death, as family statement on the death is yet to be released.
