Lonnie Wheeler was my best man, and one of the best men I have known. He will be remembered for poetic books on Wrigley Field, Kentucky fans and numerous baseball biographies. And, for those fortunate to have known him personally, for kindness and character. RIP, old friend.

Lonnie Wheeler has died. A longtime writer with the Post and Enquirer, he was also a prolific author. His bio on Hank Aaron was tremendous and “The Cincinnati Game” is a must read for any local baseball fan. Better yet, he was a wonderful guy.

Even though I knew the inevitability of his health, I am devastated by the loss of close friend and sports author Lonnie Wheeler. Readers know him from his books, work
@ENQSports
and Cincinnati Post, but he was the kindest soul, the highest moral compass, and most decent of men.

Deeply saddened to learn of death of former Cincinnati Post colleague Lonnie Wheeler. A wonderful writer, and his bios of Bob Gibson and Hank Aaron (and others) were classics. It was of course him I turned to for the Sports centerpiece on Post’s last day of publication.

Lonnie Wheeler was a good, peaceful man and a helluva writer. I was fortunate to call him a friend. I have good memories of our press box conversations and shared laughter, especially at Olympics we covered together.
