I had the privilege of taking Constitutional Law from his late brother, Twily Barker. We used Lucius Barker’s text as one of our course readings. Both brothers have been huge inspirations to Black Political Scientists, like myself. Well done, Dr. Barker and thank you.

Sad to hear that Professor Lucius Barker, the very first political scientist that I ever encountered at Stanford, has passed away. Inspired by the path he blazed and grateful for his major contributions to the #PoliSci field.

I never got the chance to meet Professor Barker, but folks who had would always tell tale of how much of an intellectual presence he had. He’s a trailblazer in the truest since. I’m a Black political scientist because he carved space to make it possible. Rest well, Professor.

I’m really sorry to hear of Lucius Barker’s passing. A great scholar and wonderful person. He was chair at Stanford when I was a graduate student on the market, and I benefited from his counsel. We’ll miss him.
