REPORTS | Family and authorities have released the name of the St. Anthony of the Desert Maronite Catholic Church parishioner who perished in Tiverton, Rhode Island. The victim in Monday afternoon’s two alarm house fire is 26-year-old Mark Bassaly. Trapped inside the home, Bassaly was located by Tiverton Fire Department and transported to Saint Anne’s Hospital, where he later passed away.
Mark was at the 10AM church service Fall River, Massachusetts on Sunday with his parents, said Deacon Brian Dunn, who served him and his mother communion, giving half of a host to each of them as was their custom.
“We’re going to miss him dearly. He was a sweet, sweet man,” Dunn said. “He really couldn’t talk to you,” Dunn said, “but he came to know you and interacted with people” without speaking. “He was very loving and kind. He was full of the Holy Spirit,” Dunn said.
“He is going to be sadly missed by many in our community. It really is shocking,” said Dunn. “It is a tragedy. They lost their son and their home.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
