The great, Chicago-based but internationally known saxophonist Mark colby has passed away. He was loved by all who knew him or heard him for his exceptional talent, engaging personality and no-holds-barred sense of humor! We were fortunate to have had him play with us a couple of times–always special when he could join us! R.I.P. Mark, we’re all better players and people for having known you.
It is with great sadness to inform you that Mark Colby has passed away. He was my friend, teacher, bandmate, and founding member of the Mulligan Mosaics Big Band. He has left a legacy of musicianship, artistry, and recordings that I will cherish. Thank you for everything, my friend.
R.I.P. Mark! The Chicago/world jazz community has lost another legend. Saxophone player, Mark Colby. Mark toured and recorded with the trumpet phenom, Maynard Ferguson. Mark was also an educator, teaching here at DePaul University and Elmhurst college.
