A man broke into a California distribution center on Saturday and started shooting people, killing an employee and injuring four others before he died shot by police, officials say.
The 31-year-old man started the attack with a semi-automatic rifle around 15:30 at a Walmart distribution center south of Red Bluff in Tehama County, the assistant chief said in a press conference from county police, Phil Johnston.
The attacker took four laps around the parking lot of the scene before crashing into the building and opening fire with the rifle, Johnston said.
Red Bluff cops shot the shooter on site, according to KHSL TV.
The suspect had a past relationship with the job center, Johnston said. The identity of the man was not published while waiting to notify his relatives.
The deceased employee was Martin Haro-Lozano, 45 years old and from Orland, California, Johnston said.
The two deceased and the four injured were taken to St. Elizabeth on Red Bluff, spokesperson Allison Hendrickson reported to The Associated Press. Declined to provide more details.
There was also a fire at the distribution center, according to authorities. There were about 200 workers on the premises, some of whom locked themselves in a room, said KHSL TV workers from the scene.
Scott Thammakhanty, employed at the reception center of the scene, said he heard shots fired by a semi-automatic weapon from the aggressor.

Thammakhanty told the newspaper he didn’t know the subject’s identity.

Vince Krick told Record-Searchlight his wife and son work on the scene. They turned out unharmed, but Krick waited at the distribution center to meet with them.

Emergency telecomers told Record-Searchlight newspaper that at least one woman was shot.
