While the Afghan Ministry of Defense announced today (Sunday) that 55 Taliban militants were killed in clashes in a number of states, the commander of the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, General Scott Miller, revealed the start of the withdrawal of his forces from some bases in Afghanistan.
"The international assistance forces to establish security in Afghanistan will hand over all their bases to the Afghan forces, and we have already started withdrawing from a number of bases," Miller said during a press conference, explaining that they are continuing to support and cooperate with the Afghan forces.
He accused the Taliban of continuing to cooperate with the terrorist al-Qaeda organization, expressing his concern about the escalation of violence on the part of the movement, saying: "If the Taliban escalated the pace of violence after the first of May, they would have made a mistake," adding: "The army, politicians and people of Afghanistan must agree with each other." ».
For its part, the Afghan Ministry of Defense stated that the warplanes targeted terrorists in the Rahin and Jamba districts of Laghman province, killing 20 Taliban and destroying a large amount of enemy weapons and ammunition. He said that the Special Forces, with the support of the Air Force, carried out operations targeting a group of Taliban rebels in the Jalars district of Wardak Province, and as a result 28 Taliban fighters were killed and a number of weapons were seized and ammunition was destroyed.
The statement pointed out that the air force carried out an air strike on a Taliban gathering in the Moqour district of Ghazni province, and as a result, 7 Taliban fighters were killed and 5 others were wounded.
An Afghan security source said that a police soldier and 4 Taliban fighters were killed in an attack by the movement on a security point in the southeastern state of Paktia yesterday, indicating that 3 policemen were wounded in the attack on a police checkpoint.
