We are sad to announce the death of former player Ralph Wright (SCAN 749) at the age of 72. A strong centre half Ralph joined County in July 1971 being described as the “find of the season”. After only 22 games he was sold to Bolton for a fee “covering the losses for the season”

We are saddened to learn today of the passing of Ralph Wright aged 72.
Ralph made nearly 50 appearances for the Sandgrounders between 1972 and 1974 and after leaving Southport became team mates and friends with Pele at New York Cosmos.

We are saddened to learn today of the passing of FPA member Ralph Wright aged 72.
Spending a spell on loan with us during the Championship season of 1972/73 he returned the following season making over 45 appearances and scoring 3 goals.
He later joined Pele at New York Cosmos.
