Spent many fine happy hours with him – he was a lovely man and author of some very fine plays.

So sad to learn of the death of Ronald Harwood with whom I had the good fortune to work alongside when he was President of PEN International A staunch defender of freedom of expression for which he fought with enormous wit & eloquence A great loss

We’re sad to hear of the death of Sir Ronald Harwood. The stage premieres of his plays The Guests and Goodbye Kiss were staged at the OT in a double bill in 2000.

This departure was confirmed through social media posts made by Twitter users who pour out tributes, and condolences to the family of the deceased.

Sir Ronald Harwood, Academy Award winning screenwriter/playwright, died yesterday at age 85.

Marian Seldes, Mrs. GK, was in the production of his play Another Time at the American Jewish Theater in 1993; Malcolm McDowell and Joan Copeland were also in the cast. Her character, Rose, said the following:

“My belief that art is a solace, art is a benediction…my world was created, transformed, and blessed by art. My prayers are for more Shakespeares and George Eliots, my litany is to the glory of Mozart and Schubert, my worship is of Rembrandt and Chagall, and the infinite number of artists whose vision has made me able to bear this life from one day to the next. Where would we have been…without our poetry, without our Browning, our Wordsworth, our Byron? There’s not a thought in my head, not a feeling in my body that art hasn’t, in one way or another, informed and fired…I believe that music might, might, just might turn the whole world upside down, all right, not the whole world…but our individual world…That’s it, that’s what I believe.”

We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
