Accounts on social media varied between science, medicine, knowledge, real estate, and merchants, but young Saudis interested in journalism and fluent in English launched an account interested in transmitting what the foreign press writes about Saudi Arabia, which is “Saudi English”, to highlight the bright aspects and achievements at all levels without looking at rumors and abuses broadcasted by the abusive and hateful press.
The founder of the account, Abd al-Majid bin Dabis, told Okaz: “The idea of the account came to highlight what the Western press writes, and to invest in Twitter to be a platform for translation. Through brief tweets, we aim to put the reader in the picture about what the other press writes about our country.
And he added, "A few months after the launch of the account, the number of followers of the account jumped to more than 50,000, and some of the news we reported is receiving views and retweets in large numbers, especially with regard to the tasks of the Entertainment and Economy Authority."
And he continued: “My co-founder, Muhammad Hathout, and I were keen to highlight the bright side of Saudi women and men, who were praised by the Western media, including engineers, inventors, and other honorable Saudi images and models that rose and excelled in their fields.”
And he stressed that the account does not transmit offensive and false news, and all that we transmit is social and economic news and analyzes of foreign newspapers, and we transmit them impartially, and we do not transmit any malicious or offensive news, indicating that the goal of the account is to serve the country and the citizen, and they have two editors who are fluent in English, They are Sunitan bin Tanbak, and Abdullah al-Hariri.
The “Saudi English” account is considered a reference for those interested in Western media, which deals with topics about Saudi Arabia, and has become a source of positive news about the Kingdom and its citizens.
