Recently, there was a story on the news Secret Death Touches Review about a mother and her children and a female friend. A criminal abducted them from their home. (They, one child and 2 adults have since been found dead and the other child, a young girl had been kidnapped). This gives law-abiding citizens pause, and may make people wonder whether or not they have the right to protect themselves by keeping weapons in the house

. Of course, you certainly can, but what kind of weapon do you want? This needs careful consideration. The first weapon people think of as a means of protection is usually a lethal one, like a gun. A gun is legal as long as the owner registers it and has a license to use it. However, because they are deadly, guns have to be very carefully handled, and they have to be very carefully stored — especially when there are children around. It’s a very bad idea, for example, to hide guns in places where children can easily reach them, like under pillows or on closet shelves, unlocked and unprotected. Because of this, adults have to be careful not just to protect their home from invaders, but to protect those in their own homes from the lethal weapons they might keep.

That’s why a good alternative may be a weapon that you can still protect self with, but that’s nonlethal. For example, a Taser, or stun gun, is a good alternative to a lethal weapon, as is pepper spray. The Taser, stun gun, or pepper spray are all nonlethal ways to stop attackers temporarily so that you can get away and get help.

Small keychain sized canisters of pepper spray are easy to carry with you, and are perfectly safe; this cayenne-based spray can simply be sprayed in an attacker’s eyes to make them burn, so that you can get away. Stun guns or Taser gun are also nonlethal ways to stop attackers, simply because you paralyze the attacker temporally by sending a nonlethal electric charge through his or her body. This gives you enough time to get away from the criminal.
