The ultimate test of our friendship
Sometimes as we Loose our friends. They may be very dear to us hence their immortality reigns supreme in our minds, immortality defined by the virtue their character embedded in us, a virtue we must do our best to emulate even if for nothing as a reminder we once had a friend like them.
Life owes us nothing hence we own none any moral responsibility except the one ascribed to them by their integrity which we reciprocate as a kind gesture.
We lose friends everyday, some to death, some because they don’t care about us, some we ostracise when their pesky nature threatens our sanity or our nerve.
Many are the loses we must endure, some friends may later remember and appreciate who we were or the things we did, especially when the voice of wisdom cries unto them from the contemplations of their past.
The ultimate truth remains that we are made and unmade by our friends, those with discipline inspire a new vista for us, those with nothing to offer robe us of our depth and richness.
The ultimate test of friendship then is not whether our friends have impacted us very much, the test is in what value we bring to the table of friendship, how much value we have add to our friends irrespective of their attitude towards us. Some friends may never appreciate or understand the role our actions play in their lives, sometimes because they drown in the pain from yesteryears, sometimes because they just don’t care, sometimes because our impact is so great they lack the wisdom to understand noble gifts bestowed by friends. Still we must persevere in our actions. A father or mother never stops loving an errant child, a friend that see beyond the weakness of another friend is a true friend. For friendship is a tower to lean on in times of challenge, a challenge we may never know we are in.
Impact your friends, be the good one, even if they despise you, do the good when you can, even if they use you to their advantage-still do the good you can for someday when the mature to that point when wisdom sings her song within them, you may not be there for them to appreciate but the regret they may carry will inspire a new phase in them, a phase which will usher in a life where they impact other with the wealth they have acquired.
