Tom York WBRC Obituary – Death: Tom York, an American television personality working for WBRC in Birmingham, Alabama, has died. Tom York, passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at the age of 96. No cause of death is given at this time.

Tom York was born on November 30, 1924 in Holland, Missouri.

York graduated from the University of North Alabama, then worked as a radio host in North Alabama before moving to Birmingham. He is best remembered for The Tom York Morning Show, which was the stations’ main morning show for 32 years.

WBRC began airing the second hour of GMA in the early 1980s, and only began airing the entire show in 1989 after York retired.

York won a regional Emmy Award in 1995. He was the emcee of Alabama Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremonies for more than a quarter century, and was inducted into the ASHOF in 1996.

After his retirement from broadcast television, he was a weekly columnist for his hometown newspaper, The Hoover Gazette, from 2006 until shortly before the newspaper’s demise in 2007. He won a regional Emmy award in 1995.
