Facial nerve tumor is an extremely rare case of tumor that grows on the acoustic nerve. Schwannomas and haemangiomasare the two common types of tumors that grow, forming on the facial nerve. The abnormal growth of cells that causes lesions and swelling is known as tumors.

The tumors could be a different form like malignant, pre-malignant, or benign. And the facial nerve tumors are always in the form of benign. The benign tumors are not cancerous but are a possibility of a metastatic deposit of another malignant tumor along the facial nerve. As per the research, there are two cases of tumors that are associated with different clinical presentations. 

Common symptoms of Facial nerve tumor

There are numbers of symptoms that are associated with Facial nerve tumor some of the common symptoms are mentioned below:

  • Facial weakness development at a slow rate.
  • Dizziness or balances problems.
  • One-sided facial weakness.
  • Facial twitching.
  • Hearing loss or tinnitus, but this depends on the location of the tumor.

The physician who handle the Facial nerve tumor issues firstly observe for the weakness of the facial muscles on one side of the face. The physician also does a CT scan of the head in order to investigate further. For the treatment of the Facial tumor, the surgical removal of the tumor is always recommended. In case the tumor has not grown then it becomes easy to preserve the facial nerve.
