With the Sudan war entering its fifth consecutive day between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, especially in the vicinity of the General Command headquarters in central Khartoum, the army forces revealed today (Wednesday) that they could have resolved the battle with air strikes within hours, but stressed that “the priority for It lies in preserving the lives of civilians.” She pointed out that the Rapid Support Forces have bases in the middle of residential neighborhoods.

The army added in a statement: “It was easy to strike rebel gatherings with the Air Force inside its concentrations in central Khartoum and eliminate the rebellion in hours, but the armed forces cannot take this path and put people’s lives at stake, and this is the difference between national armies and militias. He renewed the call for the rapid support personnel to surrender to the nearest military unit, and to get out of the state of rebellion.

He explained that the armed forces responded to a new attack on the command perimeter, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy and destroying a number of combat vehicles.

The vicinity of the General Command is still witnessing explosions and violent clashes, as well as fighting in the vicinity of the airport and the headquarters of the official television building in Omdurman, amid the death toll rising to 174, and more than 1,040 injured, according to what the Sudan Doctors Committee announced today. The United Nations estimated the death toll at about 270, and about 2,600 people were injured.

The violent clashes began in the capital a few hours after the 24-hour truce entered into force yesterday evening (Tuesday), while the two sides exchanged accusations and held responsibilities.

It is noteworthy that this bloody fighting between the two major military forces in the country began last week, days after the Rapid Support Forces pushed about 100 vehicles towards the Marawi base in the northern state, in addition to some vehicles at their centers in Khartoum, which provoked the army, which confirmed that these mobilizations were illegal. It was done without coordination with him.

However, the Rapid Support Forces confirmed that they had coordinated with the armed forces, refusing to withdraw these mechanisms, so that fighting would break out later, in a country that, since 2019, has been trying to find its way towards a new democratic rule, turning the page on ousted President Omar al-Bashir.
