The commander of the Libyan army, Major General Khalifa Haftar, denied providing any kind of support to any of the parties to the war in Sudan. He said in a statement today (Thursday): The General Command categorically denies what some cheap and paid media are dealing with, that the Libyan Arab Armed Forces provide support to one party against the other party in Sudan.

He added, "We were, are, and will remain with the stability, security, and safety of the Sudanese state."

Haftar called for the necessity of an immediate cessation of fighting between the Sudanese parties, noting the importance of providing appropriate conditions for calm and giving priority to the national interest, stressing his readiness to mediate between the warring parties. He called for the formation of a joint committee from the League of Arab States and the African Union to make efforts to cease fire and reach a calm way out of the crisis.

The Wall Street Journal had earlier quoted informed sources as saying that Haftar had sent at least one plane to transport military supplies to the Rapid Support Forces as part of the current confrontations with the Sudanese army. And it reported that Haftar sent at least one shipment of ammunition last Monday from Libya to Sudan to replenish supplies for the Rapid Support Forces.
