Detectives with the Indiana State Police are probing an officer-involved shooting Monday night in Kennard Road.

The incident happened at about 11:30 p.m. Officials responded after receiving multiple 911 calls to the 2400 block of S. Kennard Road. Arriving officers located a man fatally shot at the doorpost of his home. Preliminary investigation determined that the homeowner had opened the door to an unidentified male who opened fire on him and then fled the scene before police arrival.

A search warrant was initiated after police identified the possible suspect, according to Henry County police.

A vehicle matching the suspect’s vehicle was identified early Tuesday by Rushville Police Department traveling south on State Road 3 in the northside of Rush County. A police chase ensued after the car entered the Speedway Gas Station at 1877 N. Main Street. The man got out of his car and went into a store. A few moments later he came out met two officers who ordered him to put his two hands up.

Officers say the suspect did not obey the command, but rather drew out his gun from a holster and pointed it at the officers, prompting the officers to fire their weapon, striking him. The unidentified suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations remain active.
